A lot of Medicare marketing sounds exactly the same.

More benefits. More savings. Don’t miss your chance to enroll.

Those messages matter. Prospects need to understand what a plan offers, how it may save them money, and when they need to make a decision.

The problem is that when every plan uses the same language, the same stock photos, and the same predictable urgency, it all starts to blend together.

One smiling couple in the garden becomes another smiling couple in the garden.

So if you really want to stand out in Medicare marketing, your creative has to look and sound different from everything else in the category.

Sure you still need to talk about benefits, savings, deadlines, and whatever CMS is requiring you to do, but you just need to find a more interesting way to do it.

Here are a few ways we made our creative campaigns stand out:

Make It Feel Local

In Alabama, we created a series of social media videos called Viva Medicare Mailbag that features a man sitting in a barbecue restaurant reading Viva fan mail and questions sent in by prospects about the plan. The approach felt fresh, local, and unexpected for the category. Not to mention, they were funny, informative, and connected to the audience. These videos gave us a way to explain plan benefits without relying on the usual setup of smiling seniors and a voice-over racing through a list of copays. Better yet, the campaign delivered more impressions and more conversions.

Turn the Benefits into an Idea

In Oklahoma, we wanted prospects to feel like joining GlobalHealth was a little like winning the lottery thanks to all the benefits and savings they could receive. So we built the campaign around that feeling. The creative was bright, energetic, and completely different from what other plans were doing, and we carried this theme across television, digital, and direct mail, giving the campaign a familiar look wherever prospects saw it. When it began running, we saw web traffic spike and heard that the phones were ringing off the hook. Enrollment increased year over year. The campaign’s creative and messaging gave people a stronger reason to pay attention.

See What People Actually Remember

More recently, we developed a concept for another Medicare client that looked wildly different from the black-and-white visuals and messages this audience receives every enrollment season. We believed it would stand out, but we wanted to hear from actual prospects. So we mocked up a few mailers, mixed them into piles of competitor materials, and gave a focus group about 60 seconds to look through everything.

When time was up, we asked what they remembered.

Nearly everyone recalled the concept we were hoping they would remember.

That really matters because you need to keep in mind that your audience may only give a mailer, commercial, digital ad, or social post a few seconds of attention.

If your creative looks like everything else, there’s a good chance it will disappear into the pile.

Stand Out or Get Lost

Medicare marketing comes with plenty of rules, required language, complicated benefits, and very real deadlines. None of that means the work has to feel cold, clinical, or interchangeable.

Medicare prospects are still people. They laugh, love a good story, and notice when a brand talks to them like a person instead of treating them like a demographic.

So whether you’re planning for AEP, OEP, Age-In, or another enrollment opportunity, don’t settle for creative that only checks the boxes.

Give people something worth remembering. That’s usually where better results begin.
